Every summer, my feed turns into this kind of travel fantasy - seriously, it’s like everyone’s living in a sunscreen commercial. Shimmery blue water, hair that somehow laughs in the face of humidity, cocktails that look way too fancy to actually drink. Meanwhile, I’m sweating through my third T-shirt, debating whether my AC is dying or just being dramatic again.
Don’t get me wrong, I’m not calling anybody out as a liar. But let’s be real: we’re all curating.
For every flawless sunset pic, there’s probably a mosquito holding a grudge just off-camera. That perfect-insta bikini shot? Yeah, that’s a result of about fifteen minutes of weird poses, strategic stomach-sucking, and muttering about angles under your breath.
And those “work from the beach” posts? Please. I dare you to answer emails with sand stuck in your keyboard and Wi-Fi that disappears every time a seagull lands nearby. It’s like a cruel game of tech whack-a-mole.
Here’s the reality check: summer vacations aren’t just poolside cocktails and spontaneous road trips. There’s also sunburn, gelato that costs more than your lunch, and hotel rooms with a weird musty smell you can’t quite place. You’ll probably end up on a sweaty train, realize you packed five pairs of shoes but zero sunscreen, and spend at least one afternoon arguing with Google Maps.
But hey, scroll through social and you’d never know. All you see is the polished, glowing highlight reel. That same photo will pop up again months later with a “Take me back!” caption, conveniently ignoring the meltdown over the lost charger.
We’re all playing the same game - show the shiny moments, crop out the chaos. Not lying, just… editing. A little creative storytelling, if you will.
So next time you see someone living their “best life” on a sun-drenched beach, just remember: somewhere just outside the frame, there’s a sweaty human, a soggy towel, and a $9 bottle of water.
Honestly? That thought cracks me up, and makes me feel a whole lot less alone in my AC wars.
